INITIAL BUBBLES
The Shoot For The Stars bath bomb caught my attention in the store by its mesmerizing golden stars on a dark blue orb background. I was told the bath would have floating stars once fully dissolved and that was it. I was sold. The bath bomb went into my shopping basket. This would be the 4th Lush bath bomb that I’d be trying. Until now, none have disappointed, so I was looking forward to a fun bath time with my partner. According to their website, this is one of their all-time bestselling holiday products. We are both space lovers, so hopefully, we were in for a treat!
FUN FACT ABOUT THE NAME OF THIS BATH BOMB
I won’t pretend to know where the name of this bath bomb comes from specifically. Nevertheless, I shall chance a guess and say that it’s probably the famous Neil Armstrong quote. “Shoot for the stars but if you happen to miss shoot for the moon instead.” As the first man to ever walk on the Moon, I’ll say he definitely knows what he’s talking about. The Apollo 11 mission took place during the Cold War. President John F. Kennedy, the 35th and youngest president of the United States, made it a national goal to be able to land Americans on the Moon as well as return to Earth successfully.
“Shoot for the stars but if you happen to miss shoot for the moon instead.”
– Neil Armstrong
On July 20th, 1969, that objective was reached when Neil Armstrong took his first steps on Earth’s satellite and became the first person to walk on the Moon in human history. They later landed in the Pacific Ocean and were retrieved by a recovery ship, the USS Hornet after an eight-day historic trip to space.
THE BATH
As I put the bath bomb into the water, it sunk to the bottom of the bath, unlike the other Lush bath bombs I had tried previously.
A blue cloud rapidly spread from the bath bomb and engulfed the entire bath. Staring at the water, I was reminded of a bright summer sky. I marvelled at the fizzing sound accompanying the bath bomb dissolution as well as the scent that became evident within the first 20 seconds.
Staring at the bath, long after the Shoot For The Stars bath bomb had completely disappeared, I was expecting the stars to float to the surface and to create that beautiful night sky I was awaiting. I saw them diffuse, oozing oil into the water, and believed they would rise at any given time. Alas, that is not what happened. I realized that they would not be floating. They were probably meant to be played with or enjoyed in the bath.
So, in I went, amidst the curious glances my cat gave me.
The bath had a white foamy exterior. I found the stars and brought them out of the water. They had quite a gelatinous feel to them. I put them to use and created fun body art with the highly pigmented miniature celestial bodies. Once they had become one with the bathwater, the colour of the water became darker, more rich and resembled a starry night.
In the end, the glitter from the bath bomb does stick to the body. I see that as a plus. Why not look fabulous during the Quebec quarantine, even if it’s just yourself, your partner and your cat?
FINAL THOUGHTS
Scent: citrusy final scent;
Opacity: pretty opaque as bottom of the tub is barely visible;
Final colour: a shimmering ocean or a midnight sky blue/teal;
Verdict: Oh yes! This one’s another winner! I highly suggest playing with the stars in the bath however and not waiting for them to disappear.
