INITIAL BUBBLES
When I was in Toronto this summer, I looked up places to get more bath bombs. I had already accumulated a nice batch by then which helped me with my current collection of over 60 bath bombs. I found the Gift From Santa Holiday Bath Fizz tucked in the corner of a natural health store, Essence of Life Organics. Looking up the Pretty Organic Cosmetics brand today, to write my article, I realize that it’s one that hasn’t been active in quite a bit, with its last Instagram posts dating back to 2017, and the last posts on Facebook to 2018. The website for the products brings forth a broken link.
FUN FACT ABOUT SANTA
Let’s take a quick dive into Santa Claus and the origins of the popularity of this Christmas figure today. Some people would like to ponder whether or not Santa was created by Coca-Cola. That is not the case, but Coca-Cola’s advertising did help in shaping the image of the Santa Claus we have today. Before that, Santa Claus, origination from the Catholic Saint Nicholas, was depicted in various forms, including tall and slender characters. Therefore the establishment of Santa Claus as the morbidly obese character stemmed from Coca-Cola and maybe we should have, as a collective, taken that as a sort of foreshadowing.
THE BATH
The bath bomb itself was packaged almost entirely with carton or paper. Once opened, a protective plastic film covered the bath bomb.
Small herbs or flowers were seen embedded into the bath bomb. I wanted a fanfare of a bath bomb show that night, but settled for the Gift From Santa Holiday Bath Fizz, as I needed to give it a try anyway!
When I placed the bath fizz in the water, the first word out of my partner’s mouth was a sarcastic “impressive”. Indeed, it didn’t do much, if anything, at first, but not being one to give up so easily, I kept staring. It started slowly creating bubbles and immediately a strong scent wafted up from the bath bomb. Initially, I thought this bath bomb would be a floater. I decided to give it a little push to see what would happen and it started bobbing up and down, to the bottom of the bath and back up. A sinker and a floater. A mover and shaker! The instances where it sunk to the bottom, it blended in with the bath and bathwater so well it became invisible to the eye. The only indication I had that it hadn’t finished dissolving were the bubbles on the surface of the bath!
The more the bath bomb fizzed, the more debris I saw (herbs, flowers, etc.) and my only thought was “it’s going to be a basic olive chick soup”. I was excited to come out of the bath and smell of a nice field of deliciousness!
After several minutes of fizzing, it finally came to a stop! It was a hydrating, moisturizing and feel-good kind of bath.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Scent: The advertised smell on the package was mint candy orange. I definitely smelt a sweet and spicy combination.
Weight: 85g
Opacity: bottom of the bath is visible but not entirely so about a 45% opacity!
Final colour: Milky, creamy, hazy!
Verdict: If I could get my hands on more bath bombs from this company, I would. Sadly, I don’t know if that’ll be feasible due to the non-activity and possible disappearance of the brand.
