INITIAL BUBBLES
I found the Fresh Peach Bubble Bath Bar by QUO Beauty when I started looking elsewhere for bath products. My reference until then was Lush. It was time to branch out! In the Pharmaprix store, there were a few options, but I settled on peach, a fruit I love and a scent I don’t see much of, even now!
FUN FACT ABOUT PHARMAPRIX
The Pharmaprix stores in Quebec are found almost Canada-wide under the name of Shoppers Drug Mart. Shoppers Drug Mart is present in every province and territory in Canada, except for Nunavut. The store itself was founded in Toronto, by pharmacist Murray Koffler in 1962. Life Brand, Shoppers Drug Mart’s own private label, was created that same year. QUO Beauty, their cosmetics line was created in 1999. The company was then acquired by Loblaws in 2014.
THE BATH TAKE 1: UNDER RUNNING WATER
The instructions indicated to crumble under running water. I had misplaced said instructions. Clearly forgetting the steps I needed to take, I tried putting it, whole, under running water. Needless to say, it didn’t do much. The Fresh Peach Bubble Bath Bar itself seemed quite hard to crush on first impression, so even though the thought of cutting it in pieces occurred to me, I did not try it.
Staring at the water falling on the whole bubble bar, my partner asked me if I was sure this wasn’t a bar of soap. Laughing it off, I let the bar slip from my fingers and splash into the water with an audible “plop”.
The Fresh Peach Bubble Bath Bar was becoming slimy, harder to keep a grip on. I was then starting to think one of two things: either this bubble bar wasn’t of good quality or I had misunderstood the instructions. Turns out, I had misunderstood. So, a few days later, there was a take 2 for this bubble bar!
THE BATH TAKE 2: CRUMBLED
This time around, I decided to read the instructions. Unlike the other bubble bars I’d tried before, this one was one that needed to be crumbled before it was used. So, crumble I did. I cut my bubble bar in half and made chunks of various sizes. Scattered at the bottom of the tub, water flowing over, I began to see bubbles. Very little at first and slowly, it began foaming more and more.
When I entered the bath, I noticed that the bigger chunks had a harder time dissolving. There were still pieces at the bottom of the bath. Lesson learned: next time, I would make smaller cuts.
The bathwater had a slightly yellow tint by the end of the bath and once all the bubbles were dissolved. The bath wasn’t opaque at all, the bottom clearly visible. Scent-wise, the bubble bar has a strong peach smell, yet sadly there wasn’t much to it once I was submerged in the bath.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Scent: none in the bath; the bubble bar smelled of peach and was delectable!
Opacity: bath was clear enough that the bottom was very visible;
Final colour: light yellow;
Verdict: an interesting take on bubble bars for me, easily accessible and easy to find in a common drugstore. It’s not my favourite as I would have preferred a bubble bar that I need not crumble.
