The dumpling adventure
My go-to dumpling place when I’m in the West Island of Montreal is definitely Dumpling King. Situated on St-Charles avenue, close to Pierrefonds Boulevard, this seemingly family-run restaurant has several dumpling options, 15 non-appetizer dumplings options to be exact (several can be ordered steamed or fried).
If you’re not in the mood for dumplings, they’ve certainly got other options for you. However, I am to think that if one goes to a place with the word dumpling in the name, they’d be expected to get that particular type of item. I would like to mention that this is an honest review and one that is unsponsored.
The chosen one (dumpling that is!)
I called in advance for a pickup and got there to meet the nice lady that I’d spoken to on the phone. The restaurant adapted quickly to the COVID19 situation and offers easy and safe pickup for your orders.
We opted for the vegetarian ones (again!). Am I the only one that seems to do this when heading to my favourite restaurants? I always seem to pick the same items and tell myself constantly that I’ll get something new next time… and that rarely seems to happen. I like to believe I am fairly adventurous in my food choices. Even so, when my craving for a particular food item hits, it’s hard to ignore it.
The dumplings come in 3 colours and therefore, I presume, 3 flavours: mushroom, cabbage and vermicelli. I know this might not sound like much, but let me tell you, they sure pack a punch. We ordered one batch of steamed and one batch of fried dumplings, for the modest price of 12$ for 12 pieces.
I much preferred the steamed dumplings, whereas my partner was more partial to the fried ones, but both were delightful. The steamed dumplings were moist but not soggy, the flavour and inner texture intermingling and creating a scrumptious experience. The crunch of the fried dumplings is undeniably their high point.
Do note that Dumpling King is closed on Tuesdays, so make sure your dumpling cravings don’t occur then!
