Today, I was going to discover the heart of the city of Montreal. I decided to walk from Jarry Park to Place -Des-Arts and take pictures of little things along the way as well as catalogue a list of restaurants I wanted to try.
Art at the heart of Montreal
First things first, art. The heart of Montreal is also a living space for millions of people and how does one pack that many people in such a small space? Apartments! Once upon a time, before the streaming services took the world by a storm, satellite dishes used to be much more present in our everyday tableau. Still, several exist and are used by their owners, but they are definitely NOT a sight for sore eyes with their industrial look. So, when I saw a beautifully painted satellite dish, I could do nothing less but stop and stare (and definitely photograph!).
Next, several little things were observed: a BFF heart in the middle of the sidewalk (I could not for the life of me photograph it properly) and wallpaper graphiti art of a sky person lifting the other sky person up to reach the…moon? It was unclear, yet beautiful.
Political and social activism grafiti were on the menu as well. Aptly placed grafiti denouncing the use of cars was seen on a bridge near Park Extension.
A beautiful art piece by Rubén Sanchez on a building on top of the Chef On Call restaurant on the Plateau drew our eyes in.
Finally, our last artsy piece was by Poni & Cyrielle Tremblay, once again on the Plateau, depicting two people in the Montreal night.
The beloved city of mine was truly a living outdoor museum.
Now that my soul was nourished, it was time to feed my body!
Restaurants discovered on our Montreal walk
I spotted several restaurants and coffee shops that I will try to visit in the course of this week. Here’s a small list:
- Mezcaleros Tapas & Cocktails
- Tachido
- Palgong Tea (a chain in Toronto!)
- Mimi & Jones
- Restaurant Hansang
- Columbus Café & Co
- Ta Pies
- Baba
- Bloom
- Sansotei Ramen Sainte-Catherine
- Krispy Kreme Café (for old times sake, as I used to go there frequently as a child)
What we ended up eating in Montreal
At last, I arrived at Places-Des-Arts and wanted to eat. To be sure, I had seen Lola Rosa as well as N900 as excellent options as I had tried them before. Certainly, I was quite tempted to eat at one of these places.
Needing to remind myself that I was here to try new restaurants, I spotted Bloom, a vegan sushi restaurant. The choice was immediate!
Keep up with my adventures around the world (and in this case Montreal) with my next article! If you have Montreal food/restaurant recommendations, do drop them in the comment section, I’m excited to see what my city has to offer! Join me I discover Montreal.
